Community

At FRM we care deeply about the world we live in, and are committed to being
a business with a positive environmental and social impact

Community Compost Scheme

Here at FRM, we provide up to 5 bulk bags of our renowned Green Goodness Soil Improver free of charge to local schools and community groups in local authority areas that we cover. We want to encourage as many people as possible to try their hand at growing their own fruit and vegetables and promote the mental, social, and physical benefits associated with gardening. We currently give away approximately 500t of Green Goodness annually.

If you work at a school or are involved with a community group please give our office a call on 0333 224 0054 or email sales@caledonianhorticulture.co.uk to find out more. Please note there will be a £20 delivery charge per bulk bag.

Tree Planting

In 2021, FRM planted 1700 trees with the help of local community groups as part of our One Planet Pledge. This included the creation of a new 4 acre community woodland – Twa Burns Woods near East Linton, situated just off the John Muir Way. This year we are scaling up our tree planting endeavors and are in the planning stages for a new 20 acre community woodland near Lanark, and a restorative woodland project on a 100 acre site near Whitburn.

Beach Cleans

In June 2021 for World Ocean Day we had over 70 community and family groups covering the coastline between Berwick-upon-Tweed and Edinburgh, and in June 2022 we extended this up the coast to Aberdeen!

As well as our annual June event we hold various other cleans throughout the year to target identified litter hotspots around the Scottish coast. More information and ways to get involved can be found on the Scottish Coastal Clean Up website.

Community Fundraising and Sponsorship

We believe in giving back to our local community and over the years we have organised various fundraisers and provided sponsorship to local teams totalling over £80,000. We’ve raised money for a variety of local charities including Leuchie House Respite Centre and Vine Trust, with events such as farm sales, art auctions, and supper evenings. We sponsored the 5 in a Row team on their recent Atlantic crossing to raise money for Reverse Rett, and currently sponsor North Berwick Rugby Club who were this year’s Division 2 winners! Our MD, Tommy, even played in a couple of games this year for the team.

Our latest fundraiser is our ‘Compost for Kyiv’ drive where our customers are invited to fill their own bag of compost at our East Fenton site in return for a donation to charities helping with the conflict in Ukraine.
