An East Lothian based business is celebrating after scooping a prestigious local government award.
Caledonian Horticulture collected the Community Benefit award at the prestigious Scotland Excel Supplier Excellence Awards. The ceremony was held at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on 11 May. Around 380 guests from across the public and private sectors attended the glittering ceremony hosted by broadcaster, Dougie Vipond.
One Planet Pledge
Caledonian Horticulture introduced their ‘One Planet Pledge’ in 2020 to amplify their community benefits. Annually, they donate around 500t of our Green Goodness compost (with a value of over £23,000) to local schools, community groups, and charities.
They have given away 2,500 trees over the last two years and worked with over 80 community groups to collectively clean over 800km of coastline. They have also provided sponsorship and fundraised over £75,000 for local charities.
The Supplier Excellence Awards is the only award programme dedicated to the role of suppliers in public procurement. They celebrate the economic, social and environmental benefits delivered for communities through Scotland Excel contracts.
Kate Miller from Caledonian Horticulture said “We care deeply about the world we live in and are committed to being a business with a positive environmental and social impact. It’s fantastic to receive this award in recognition of our One Planet Pledge and the community benefit it provides.”
Scotland Excel’s Chief Executive, Julie Welsh said: “We are delighted to recognise the vital role of businesses that go the extra mile when providing goods and services through our contracts.
“It’s right and fitting that companies such as Caledonian Horticulture which demonstrate excellence when supporting delivery of public services are applauded for their achievements.
“The standard of entries for this year’s awards was higher than ever. On behalf of Scotland Excel, I’d like to congratulate Caledonian Horticulture on their well-deserved success.”
Scotland Excel is the centre of procurement expertise for local government in Scotland. The Supplier Excellence Awards are open to more than 1000 suppliers participating in their national frameworks worth c. £2bn per annum.
