In the latest episode of our Exploring Scottish Gardens series, we visit Mary Park in Newmilns, East Ayrshire who has crafted her various green spaces into a gardening paradise.
Mary split her green spaces into 4 distinct areas, her traditional cottage garden, her thriving allotment, an orchard that holds many memories and her large open field ready for new projects. In the short space of 14 months, she has turned these areas into something truly special, with the harvets from her allotment garden supplying her local pub and her future plans to support wildlife, make this a magnificent space.
Designed with both beauty and practicality in mind using the ‘no dig’ method, the allotment garden is filled with Caledonian Horticulture’s Green Goodness compost.
When crafting these areas, Mary chose plants she knew could withstand the harsh Scottish climate, giving them the best chance to thrive.
