In our latest Exploring Scottish Gardens episode, Andy Peasgood visits Horatio’s Garden Scotland, a sanctuary nestled within the National Spinal Injuries Unit at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
Here, Andy meets Head Gardener Chelsea Lowe, who shares how this beautifully considered space offers far more than just stunning planting. Thoughtfully designed by renowned garden designer James Alexander-Sinclair, the garden has been created to bring peace, strength, and moments of normality to people facing life-changing spinal injuries during some of their most challenging times.
Every leaf, every flower, and every carefully placed bench plays a role in supporting both physical recovery and emotional wellbeing, helping people to reconnect with nature when they need it most. We’re also proud that our compost has played a part in nurturing this special space, enriching the soil, and helping the plants to thrive, ensuring the garden remains a vibrant, restorative haven throughout the seasons.
